Winter Solstice: A time for renewal

This year Winter Solstice falls on Saturday, December 21. It was the shortest day and longest night of the year. The significance of the day symbolizes a time for fresh starts and renewal. This day is a timely reminder to slow down, pause, rest, and create space for reflection as we look toward a new year.

As we wrap up 2024, I am filled with gratitude and appreciation for the many people in my life and experiences I have shared along the way. This past year has been a testament to individual and collective resilience, hope, trust and healing. More often than not the right thing to do is right in front of you, and sometimes it is better to do nothing and pause. Remember, we have all we need inside of us.

For inspiration I turn to poetry. This time of year I am reminded of the poem, A New Day’s Lyric by Amanda Gorman. Here is an excerpt:

“May this be the day

We come together.

Mourning, we come to mend,

Withered, we come to weather,

Torn, we come to tend,

Battered, we come to better.

Tethered by this year of yearning,

We are learning

That though we weren’t ready for this,

We have been readied by it.

We steadily vow that no matter

How we are weighed down,

We must always pave a way forward...”

May this winter break and holiday season be filled with warmth, happiness, peace, and contentment that will sustain you into the new year.
